Pharmacy Operations Manager

Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Supervise technicians and cashiers within company policies, laws, regulations and business ethics. Coordinate selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Lead training, coaching, and performance management of technicians. Make decisions regarding performance management, including discipline and termination. Engage customers and patients by greeting them, assisting with products and services, resolving complaints, and responding to non-clinical requests to ensure a positive customer experience. Build relationships by anticipating needs and promoting services. Assist pharmacist in patient care activities including patient registration, data entry, preparation and verification of medications (where permitted by law). Conduct patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision and participate in health services offered where allowed by law (e.g., vaccines, health screenings). Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical tasks in the pharmacy within policy and legal guidelines; ensure timely completion and accountability for workflow. Prepare and file reports required by the company and government agencies; manage core pharmacy workflow and daily schedules; optimize staffing and inventory; ensure a clean, stocked pharmacy. Ensure compliance and execution of business administrative activities and inventory management that do not require licensure; manage annual inventory preparation. Support recordkeeping, security safeguards, and proper operation of pharmacy department equipment; collaborate with the Pharmacy Manager on recordkeeping and security. Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during all applicable prescription-dispensing activities and ensure the elements of Good Faith Dispensing are met. Monitor asset protection and report any diversion concerns; communicate prescription errors and participate in Continuous Quality Improvement programs. Process insurance claims accurately to resolve issues and prevent rejections; coordinate follow-ups with insurers and providers and participate in 3rd-party audits. Assist Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service. Manage Community Outreach Portal and coordinate immunization clinics and community events as directed, building partnerships. People & Performance Management
Lead technicians’ performance management, including discipline and termination decisions within policy; ensure compliance with state and federal laws; hold technicians accountable for attendance and timeliness; foster engagement and performance improvement. Hire, on-board, train, and schedule technicians; monitor training completion and enforce scheduling/training policies. Identify gaps in operational knowledge and support team members through hands-on training or learning modules. Ensure licensure, registrations, and certifications are active and compliant; verify status using Walgreens resources. Training & Personal Development
Maintain PTCB certification or equivalent state certification/registration; pursue ongoing knowledge and skills in pharmacy and healthcare. Obtain required certifications and training as directed; participate in performance improvement plans as needed; seek professional development with mentorship and coaching. Communication
Communicate with the pharmacy team and relay messages from support centers or other channels; participate in store/pharmacy meetings and regular check-ins with the Store Manager. Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico). One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in retail or hospital settings. Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking; except in Puerto Rico). Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations). Preferred Qualifications
Previous people management/leadership experience. Previous Walgreens experience with an Exceeding Expectation on last performance evaluation.
