Pharmacy Operations Manager

Walgreens . This position focuses on day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations, administrative activities, and ensuring an efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. The role requires supervising pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers under the supervision of a pharmacist. Responsibilities
Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervise pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers in accordance with company policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics. Oversee the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Lead training, coaching, and performance management of technicians. Make decisions regarding performance management, including discipline and termination. Engage customers and patients by greeting them, offering assistance, resolving complaints, responding to requests in a timely manner, and answering non-clinical questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Model and share customer service best practices. Develop strong relationships with customers by anticipating needs and proactively offering services to enhance the pharmacy experience and focus on healthcare services. Assist the pharmacist in patient care delivery including patient registration, prescription data entry, preparation and verification of medications (where allowed by law). Conduct patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision; support healthcare services including vaccines and health screenings where allowed by law. Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work in the pharmacy within company policies and applicable laws to ensure on-time task completion and efficient workflow. Prepare and file reports and records required by the company and government agencies, under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist. Manage core pharmacy workflow, organize daily activities, and ensure the pharmacy is properly stocked and maintained. Ensure compliance and execution of business administrative activities and inventory management that do not require pharmacist licensure; manage annual inventory preparation. Complete non-clinical patient calls and drive new technology/process rollout with the team; ensure security safeguards and proper operation of pharmacy equipment. Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy in all applicable dispensing activities and ensure the elements of Good Faith Dispensing are met. Support asset protection; monitor diversion risks and report concerns to the Pharmacy Manager. Communicate prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and follow company policies related to pharmacy errors and the Continuous Quality Improvement program. Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims, resolve customer issues, and participate in 3rd party audits as needed. Assist Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service. Manage Community Outreach Portal, coordinate off-site immunization clinics and community events, and build relationships with retail partners. People & Performance Management
Lead performance management of technicians, including discipline and termination decisions; follow constructive discipline policies and ensure compliance with state and federal laws. Hire, onboard, train, and schedule technicians; monitor training completion and follow company policies for scheduling and training. Identify knowledge gaps in pharmacy operations and support teammates with hands-on training or learning modules. Monitor licensures, registrations, and certifications for pharmacy staff; document licensure status using Walgreens resources as needed. Ensure proper procedures for selection, recruitment, record retention, and training per company policy and applicable laws. Training & Personal Development
Maintain PTCB certification and any required state certifications/registrations. Keep knowledge up to date regarding pharmacy and healthcare; pursue certifications and training as required by the company and participate in performance improvement plans. Seek professional development, solicit feedback, and engage with a supervisor as mentor and coach. Communication
Communicate with the pharmacy team and relay messages from the support center and other key emails. Participate in store/pharmacy meetings, including brief daily huddles and weekly check-ins with the Store Manager. Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico). One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting. Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico). Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations). Preferred Qualifications
Previous people management/leadership experience. Previous Walgreens experience with an Exceeding Expectation on last performance evaluation.
