Overview
Pharmacy Operations Manager role at Walgreens. The position is responsible for day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities where allowed by state and federal laws/regulations, ensuring efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. The role includes supervising pharmacy technicians and cashiers under the direction of a pharmacist. Responsibilities
Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions, under the supervision of a pharmacist. Supervise and develop pharmacy technicians and cashiers within approved policies, laws, regulations and business ethics. Lead the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel; conduct training, coaching, and performance management; make decisions regarding discipline and termination. Engage customers and patients, greet and assist with products and services, resolve non-clinical inquiries, and promote a positive customer experience. Assist the pharmacist in the delivery of patient care, including patient registration, data entry, preparation/verification of medications, and health services allowed by law (e.g., vaccines, health screenings). Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work in the pharmacy, ensuring on-time task completion and accountability for workflow. Prepare and file reports required by the company and government agencies; manage core pharmacy workflow and daily activity scheduling; ensure cleanliness, organization, and proper stocking of supplies. Manage inventory and recordkeeping, ensure compliance with business administrative activities, and safeguard assets and security. Drive technology and process improvements, support implementation of new initiatives, and coordinate with the Pharmacy Manager on recordkeeping and security safeguards. Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies and ensure elements of Good Faith Dispensing are met during applicable prescription-dispensing activities. Support diversion monitoring, report concerns, and communicate prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist. Process insurance claims accurately, resolve issues, and participate in third-party audits as needed. Collaborate with Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager to analyze and improve pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service. Manage Community Outreach Portal and coordinate pharmacist coverage for off-site immunization clinics and community events; build relationships with retail partnerships. Lead performance management of technicians, including disciplinary decisions in line with policy; hold technicians accountable for attendance and timeliness; foster engagement and action planning to improve performance. Oversee technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling; ensure timely completion of required training. Identify gaps in team knowledge and support training through hands-on guidance or learning modules; monitor licensures, registrations, and certifications for compliance. Ensure proper procedures for selection, recruitment, record retention, and training per company policy and legal requirements. Training & Personal Development
Maintain PTCB certification and relevant state certifications; pursue ongoing education and training as required by Walgreens. Engage in professional development, solicit feedback, and leverage mentors for growth. Communication
Communicate with the pharmacy team and relay messages from support centers or other stakeholders; participate in store/pharmacy meetings and check-ins with the Store Manager. Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico). One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in retail or hospital settings. Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico). Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations). Preferred Qualifications
Previous people management/leadership experience. Previous Walgreens experience with an Exceeding Expectation on last performance evaluation.
