Pediatric Emergency Department/ Inpatient Child Life Specialist (24 hours a week) SIGN-ON BONUS This position is eligible for a $2,500 sign-on bonus. Under limited supervision, the Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) provides psychosocial and emotional support for pediatric and adolescent patients and their families at GBMC HealthCare. The CCLS uses a family-centered care approach to help patients and families cope with the hospital experience and supports growth and development of children and adolescents. Responsibilities

Coordinate with the GBMC Pediatrics interdisciplinary team to implement the most appropriate plan of care. Select age-appropriate activities to address psychosocial needs and create a minimally threatening therapeutic environment. Provide therapeutic child life care including medical play, psychological preparation, coping strategies, and presence during procedures to support coping. Develop, implement, and evaluate child life care plans to promote growth, development, self-esteem, and family support. Foster social interactions among patients and families; implement and evaluate new child life programs as warranted. Maintain age-appropriate supplies of therapeutic play materials; manage budget and inventory; assess equipment needs for the Pediatric ED/Inpatient Unit 39 and other pediatric care settings. Participate in continuing education and provide interdisciplinary education on child development and the impact of illness and care on patients and families. Maintain professional boundaries and contribute as an active member of the Pediatric interdisciplinary team. Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Child Life or related field (Child Development, Psychology, Education, Counseling) – preferred. At least one year of paid experience as a Child Life Specialist; completion of a child life internship is required as recognized by ACLP. Current certification as a Child Life Specialist through the Association for Child Life Professionals, or eligible for Certification with it to be obtained within one year of hire. Physical ability to walk and stand for up to eighty percent of work time and lift or push objects up to thirty pounds for up to fifteen percent of work time. Working Conditions

Work is primarily in the Pediatric Emergency Department or Pediatric Inpatient Unit 39, with potential coverage in other GBMC pediatric care settings. These are clinical environments with direct patient contact. Skills

Understanding of infant/child/adolescent development and behavior. Analytical skills to assess patient and family needs, plan care, and implement interventions. Time management to provide child life services across clinical settings. English literacy and ability to complete professional electronic documentation. Interpersonal skills to engage patients and families in therapeutic relationships. Basic supervisory skills to oversee child life program volunteers during shifts. Knowledge of the ACLP Code of Ethics. Pay Range

$21.27 - $36.00 per hour. Final salary will be based on qualifications, education, experience, and alignment with organizational needs. Licensure, Vaccination & Safety
