Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - UAB Kidney/Pancreas Transplant
Work schedule: Full-time, Benefited. 4-10hr shifts per week (7a-5p). Weekends and holidays are required. No call required.
The following APPs are eligible for this role: Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
UAB Medicine is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Kidney/Pancreas Transplant Team. The APP will practice in both inpatient and ambulatory settings, with a majority of time spent in the inpatient setting. In the inpatient role, the APP will care for kidney and kidney/pancreas transplant recipients readmitted to the hospital for medical complications post-transplant. The APP will work collaboratively with physicians and fellows, but also be expected to work autonomously in plan development and daily care of the patients. The APP will see pre-transplant patients referred for kidney transplant evaluation.
Position Summary To provide medical care and treatment within established scope of practice to surgical patients as assigned by and under the direction of the collaborating physician or under supervision of a Board-Certified Physician. The collaborating physician shall be available for direct communication for consultation and referral or arrange for the same medical coverage by a physician who is pre-approved by the State Board of Medical Examiners. Coordinate plan of care, discharge and referrals; educate patients and families; perform comprehensive physical examinations; interpret and evaluate medical records; assist in procedures; participate in performance improvement activities.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Based on thorough physical and psychosocial patient assessments, formulate and implement comprehensive patient care plans focused on surgical interventions, including patient and family education, prescriptions, labs, diagnostics and therapies.
Ensure complete documentation of patient assessments and care plans.
Order and interpret laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
Maintain records and reports as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission; coordinate performance and quality improvement activities.
Assist in coordination of research protocols; serve as patient advocate and liaison between patient and healthcare providers.
Provide orientation and training to new clinical personnel; conduct workshops and distribute materials for patients and staff.
Serve as clinical resource to staff and patients; provide a safe environment; participate in ongoing professional growth.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements Minimum Requirements:
Master's degree in Nursing with Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification or graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Work experience may not substitute for education.
Preferred:
Three (3) years transplant or APP experience.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations: Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with CRNP Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing or licensed as a Physician Assistant by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners with certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C); Basic Life Support (BLS) required; ACLS and/or PALS may be required within 6 months depending on unit.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of procedures, protocols, information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, disease and deformities
Knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools and programs
Written and verbal communication skills
Interpersonal skills
Ability to be self-directed and self-motivated
Ability to multi-task and problem-solve
Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
