Vivarium Operations About BioLegacy BioLegacy is the U.S. division of PharmaLegacy, a global preclinical contract research organization (CRO) providing regulated in vivo study services to the biopharmaceutical industry. Our San Diego facility operates under strict safety, compliance, and operational standards to support client projects consistently and efficiently.

Position Summary

The Husbandry Technician I is an entry-level role responsible for following established procedures to maintain the operation of an animal housing facility. Duties include scheduled feeding, cage changing, sanitation, and basic animal observations. This position works under direct supervision in a highly regulated environment with set protocols and schedules.

Key Responsibilities

Animal Housing Operations

Provide food and water to animals based on set schedules. Move animals between cages or rooms as directed. Visually check animals for changes in appearance or behavior and report to a supervisor.

Facility Sanitation and Maintenance

Clean and disinfect cages, rooms, and equipment according to SOPs. Remove waste materials following safety and disposal guidelines. Maintain an organized work area and ensure supplies are stocked.

Receiving and Set-Up

Prepare cages, racks, and housing areas for new animals. Assist with intake documentation and housing assignments.

Recordkeeping and Training

Complete required logs, checklists, and forms accurately. Participate in mandatory training on safety and facility procedures. Follow all written protocols exactly as provided.

Team Support

Assist coworkers with assigned facility tasks. Attend team meetings as scheduled. Participate in weekend or holiday shift rotations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures. Attention to detail in performing repetitive and routine tasks. Basic computer skills for record entry (Word, Excel, email). Dependable attendance and professional conduct. Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods. Comfortable working in an environment with animal odors, waste, and cleaning products. Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or GED. Proof of required vaccinations before hire. Ability to complete training and demonstrate understanding of SOPs. Work Environment

This position is in a controlled animal facility with exposure to animal dander, waste, cleaning agents, and biohazardous materials. The role involves physical activity, adherence to strict schedules, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times in designated areas. EEO Note:
