Overview Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), established in 1971, offers a full continuum of evidence based behavioral health and addiction services for children, adolescents, adults, and seniors throughout New Jersey. UBHC employs 1,060+ experienced behavioral health professionals and support staff dedicated to treatment, prevention, and education. UBHC is one of the largest providers of behavioral health care in the country and operates 15 sites throughout New Jersey with a budget of $260 million. Specialty services include the New Jersey suicide prevention helpline and peer help lines for police, veterans, active military, teachers, mothers of special needs children, and child protective service workers.

The Mental Health Specialist II for NJ Hopeline performs functions in support of the Unit\'s mission to provide streamlined, prompt, and customer-friendly services to clients of the 988 Lifeline Services. The role receives telephone, chat and/or text requests, assesses client service needs, and responds with appropriate support or referrals. The incumbent demonstrates competency in recognizing the unique needs of clients and applying relevant assessment and support skills for a wide range of issues.

Responsibilities

Interacts with clients in a therapeutic manner and models recovery-oriented skills and self-help strategies.

Assists clients in identifying personal recovery goals, setting objectives, and determining interventions aligned with those goals.

Develops and maintains relationships with clients to identify emotional, psychiatric or behavioral changes requiring further intervention or referral to appropriate clinical staff.

As part of the Call Center, ensures service requests are handled in a timely and client-friendly manner.

Accepts service requests, responds to calls/chats/texts within prescribed timeframes, and communicates courteously with clients or third parties.

Assesses service requests/referrals and provides guidance, referrals, or disposition using current knowledge of resources and programs.

Qualifications

Required: Four (4) years of full-time paid experience in an appropriate mental health or human service field, or a Bachelor\'s Degree in a relevant field.
