Essential nursing care in ambulatory settings with leadership of a multidisciplinary team. Temporary relocation may be required among TONHC facilities.

Position Summary Under general supervision, provides nursing care and treatment to clients/patients according to policies, procedures, protocol, and client needs. Assists supervisor with day‑to‑day functions of the Ambulatory Care Unit.

Scope of Work Located in the nursing department. Evaluates nursing needs, develops nursing plans, schedules assignments, and delegates duties to appropriate personnel under direction of Supervisory Nurse Specialist.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Guide clinical team of three or more nurses and ancillary staff.

Communicate organizational strategic plan and values to the team.

Lead problem‑solving, schedule nursing assignments, and balance workload.

Coach team in appropriate problem‑solving methods.

Monitor and report status of work; ensure timely completion of tasks.

Prepare reports and maintain records of completed work.

Represent team to supervisor to secure resources and decisions.

Communicate team consensus to supervisor on actions affecting the team.

Accountable for patient care documentation and teaching.

Provide clinical nursing services for patients requiring specialized care; assess, develop plan of care.

Consult with physicians and staff to determine health care needs; collaborate in multidisciplinary approach.

Observe patient clinical condition; collect and interpret data.

Initiate specific nursing measures during emergencies using BLS‑defined protocols.

Participate in developing and evaluating standards of care and quality improvement monitoring.

Coordinate resources to provide social, emotional, educational, cultural, spiritual support to patients and families.

Maintain professional knowledge and proficiency in ambulatory care through continuing education.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions.

Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations, and requirements.

Knowledge of cardiac monitoring equipment and nursing practice related to emergencies.

Knowledge of hospital policy regarding infection control and quality improvement.

Knowledge of pharmacology and therapeutic and adverse reactions.

Knowledge of physical assessment, disease processes, and interventions.

Knowledge of age‑specific aspects of care and proper emergency procedures.

Knowledge of human behavior to provide counseling and health instruction.

Knowledge of management techniques to guide and lead nursing personnel.

Knowledge of statistical and research methods.

Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate toward organizational goals.

Knowledge of HIPAA‑related rules and regulations.

Compassionate communication and independent judgment.

Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.

Ability to provide training in CPR and First Aid.

Computer skills are essential.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by a legally designated State‑accrediting agency.

Registration: Active, current, and unrestricted professional nursing license in a State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.

Experience: Two years of ambulatory care nursing experience and knowledge of leadership principles.

Licenses, Certifications, and Special Requirements

Current certification in Healthcare CPR and AED.

Current immunization statement and proof of non‑reactive tuberculosis test or negative chest x‑ray, hepatitis B immunity evidence within three months of hire.

Criminal background and National FBI fingerprint check, with 39‑month driving record.

Valid driver’s license (no DUI or major traffic citations within the last three years).

Meet Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer insurance requirements for driver’s permit.

Fluency in both Tohono O'odham language and English may be required.
