Job Description Summary:
The CT Technologists performs CT scans according to established protocols. The CT Technologists demonstrates an understanding of human cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology. The CT Technologists maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique. The CT Technologists maintains knowledge and awareness of radiation protection and safety during all radiographic examinations. Essential Functions: Uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information pertinent to the examination being performed, including correct patient identification and order verification. Assess patient to determine and develop an action plan for completing the procedure. Performs pre and post exam patient education pertinent to exam being performed. Produces CT scans according to established protocols within the Diagnostic Imaging Department with a high degree of accuracy. Evaluates finished images/series for technical accuracy and diagnostic quality. Demonstrates good radiation safety practices during radiographic examinations to include use of correct FOV, lead shields as appropriate, and determining pregnancy status of women of childbearing years. Performs venipuncture and contrast injections in accordance with department and hospital guidelines. Ensures examinations are complete to include and exam logged in computer system. Instructs Radiologic Technology students in the CT Scan positioning and technique. Attends and participates in department staff meetings and in-services. Assists in training new personnel in hospital and department procedures. Takes an active role in gaining and maintaining proficiency in hospital and radiology equipment and information systems needed in performance of job responsibilities. Uses appropriate customer relations skills to ensure that customer expectations are met including flexibility in scheduled hours. Assist in quality improvement programs in the department. Maintains appropriate credentials and certification related to clinical practice and ensures a current copy is on file in the department/hospital. Ensures that assigned areas are kept clean, neat, and orderly. Performs other duties as assigned. Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred): Graduate of a JRC approved program in Radiologic Technology Registered with ARRT KY Radiation Operators certification BLS CT Certification preferred at time of hire but required within 1 year of employment.
