UPMC McKeesport is hiring a Part-Time Staff Nurse to support the 4M General Surgery Unit. The 4M Unit emphasizes teamwork and collaboration and is dedicated to making a difference in patients’ lives. This part-time position will work 2, 12-hour shifts per week; some weekends and holidays are required. This position is eligible for a generous sign-on bonus. Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education. Title and salary will be determined based on education and nursing experience. Responsibilities

Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by taking accountability for actions, demonstrating enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to patients and colleagues. Maintain a conscious balance between work and personal life; model safe work hours, time management, and a healthy lifestyle. Communicate safety hazards identified in the workplace to peers and management. Apply the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Formulate daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involve the patient as a partner and consider individual needs in a holistic manner. Demonstrate critical thinking to identify clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues for patient care within an episode of care. Communicate with care providers and negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices. Demonstrate knowledge of adult learning principles (and/or teaching children when applicable) and apply teaching to patients, families, students, and new staff. Provide detailed teaching to patients and families to guide them through the episode of care and transitions to other levels of care or home. Support the development of students, new staff, and colleagues; may serve as a preceptor. Foster an environment of open dialogue, inquiry, and continuous development by seeking feedback and improving practice. Actively participate in department or unit quality improvement efforts. Utilize research and evidence-based practice to support improvement in clinical care, identify research issues, and discuss opportunities for quality improvement. Engage in unit-based shared governance, goal setting, and support change to improve the quality of care and the practice environment. Participate in work that improves patient care and the professional practice environment. Adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility with the change process. 0-1 years of experience. Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, staff, other departments, and patients/families. Ability to work productively in a complex environment and handle multiple priorities and specialized equipment. Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities related to patient care. Mobility and manual dexterity; physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients. BSN preferred. Completion of UPMC student nurse internship or student clinical transitions course at UPMC preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances

Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Temporary Practice Permit (TPP). Graduate Nurses must complete the licensure examination within 4 months of hire or within one year of graduation. UPMC-approved national certification is preferred. NIH Certification required within 6 months of hire. CPR is required based on AHA standards with both didactic and skills demonstration components within 30 days of hire.
