Overview
Job Purpose Statement: As a member of the faculty at Maple Village Waldorf School, the Class Assistant's role in a Waldorf Preschool is very important and appreciated not only by the teachers but also by the parents. The Assistant's role is to support the teacher, which allows the teacher to do their job optimally. Class assistants are supervised by the Class Teacher. Hours
This is a part-time hourly position, 3-5 days per week. 6 ½ hours per day 8:00 - 2:30 M-T-W/W-Th-F/M-F (with provided 30 min break). Pedagogical meetings with Early Childhood Department are held every other week on Tuesdays, 2:00 - 3:00. Assistants are paid for this extra hour. Compensation

Class Teacher Qualifications
Previous experience working in group settings with children, either in early childhood or grades. A working understanding of Waldorf Education and pedagogy, so as to work with staff members to create activities that are developmentally appropriate and imbue the values of Waldorf Education. Classroom Responsibilities: Help provide eyes on supervision of all children at all times Preparation of classroom and activities Prepare snack Support the teacher throughout the day in classroom activities Food management Store food in plastic boxes and seal them tightly Maintain consciousness of children's allergies Set up dishwashing for children using approved hygienic methods Responsible for classroom hygiene Rewash dishes using approved hygienic method Participate in Circle and story Participate in Tidy up Clean up the room when children leave Appropriate interaction with children Transitions children, who are staying for after-care, into naptime Parent Relations: All parent questions must be referred to the teacher Assistants may not initiate any written communication with class parents Skills, Knowledge, and/or Abilities Required
Waldorf training is preferred Willingness to develop a deeper understanding of the principles of Waldorf education and anthroposophy Pediatric CPR and First Aid trained Thorough understanding of Child Abuse reporting laws Ability to promote the school and its mission effectively Ability to communicate effectively with class teacher Experience working with young children is preferred Ability to maintain confidentiality and hold sensitive information about a child or a family situation with discretion and tact Thorough familiarity with the Parent Handbook Physical Demands
Frequent: Standing, walking. Occasional: Sitting, lifting and carrying. Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required: Live-Scan Clearance, Clear TB Test, and completed HR online trainings. General Expectations

We are a progressive suburban school housed in a historic church building in the quiet neighborhood of Belmont Heights. Our relationship with Long Beach Parks and Recreation allows us to utilize four parks within walking distance for partial school days. Our school was recently one of six private schools in the country to be named a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School for Environmental Sustainability, health and wellness, and STEM. We are located minutes from the beach, 1.5 hours to the desert, 2 hours to the mountains, and 30 minutes from a Waldorf high school. We have an experienced faculty, strong peer mentoring program, and together we study, listen, counsel, laugh, eat, and celebrate. Our specialty subjects include Handwork, Woodwork, Spanish, Japanese, Games, Strings, Chorus, and Gardening. We also have a strong Early Childhood and Grades Extended Care program. Hiring Process
