Overview
Provide leadership, instruction and motivation for swim team participants, attend swim meets/team functions, promote the swim team program within association guidelines, and maintain a safe environment. Understands that the team’s purpose is to develop swimmers’ skills, teach good sportsmanship, and demonstrate a high level of integrity in a caring and nurturing environment. Base pay range
$17.00/hr - $18.50/hr Position summary

Understands that the team’s purpose is to develop swimmers’ skills, teach good sportsmanship, and demonstrate a high level of integrity in a caring and nurturing environment. Essential functions
Provide support to coach who leads structured practices during assigned times as allocated by the Director of Competitive Coaching. Track daily attendance as outlined by the Director of Competitive aquatics. Maintain open communication with parents and promote an environment that focuses on the development of the swimmer and cultivates relationships that create a collaborative swim team environment within YMCA philosophy, rules, guideline and policies. Attends invitationals and swim meets as assigned by the Director of Competitive Swimming. Assist in swim team social event planning as necessary. Maintains a safe environment for swim team participants. Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants. Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk. Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk. Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers and require them to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk. Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the Y’s disciplinary procedures and respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and follow mandated reporting requirements. Communicates to all employees and volunteers the Y’s commitment to protect our members from abuse. Attends staff meetings and training courses as scheduled. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, best practices, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures, and supporting the associations’ philanthropy efforts. The position is identified as safety sensitive and subjected to required, random drug testing as scheduled. Maintains an orderly environment and secures team equipment at the end of practice/meets. Reports damaged equipment. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. Assist in all areas as assigned and completes all projects as assigned by the supervisor. Leadership Competencies
Emotional Maturity Communication Critical Thinking and Decision Making Qualifications
Minimum age of 17 plus 2+ years’ experience as a competitive swimmer. Proficiency in swim skills in accordance with YMCA standards and a strong foundation in stroke mechanics; ability to communicate effectively with swimmers and parents. Current Basic Life Support (CPR), AED & Basic First Aid certification with annual renewal. Current YMCA or ARC Lifeguarding and the ARC Safety Training for Swim Coaches online certification, or STSC in-person certification if no Lifeguard certification is held. Must secure and maintain certifications as outlined by USA swimming or YUSA requirements to obtain deck passes for competitions (national coaching certifications, safety certifications, leadership training as required). Work Environment & Physical Demands
Ability to instruct, observe, and demonstrate proper stroke and competitive swim techniques. Ability to lift and pull equipment up to 50 pounds, and to lift a small to average size child. Ability to stand for long periods and to work inside and outside in varied conditions. Must be in good physical condition to coach swimming. Ability to concentrate in a loud environment.
