JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in instructing participants and effectively supervise and motivate class participants to reach their individual goals.
Maintain a working knowledge of and demonstrate swim instructor skills according to YMCA standards.
Assist in instructing and evaluating swim lesson participants in line with YMCA guidelines, and prepare lesson plans accordingly.
Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents.
Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules as appropriate.
Submit completed records on time (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
Organize and store class equipment; report any facility or equipment irregularities to supervisor in writing.
Ensure the safety of participants.
Follow and enforce all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety protocols.
Be knowledgeable and prepared to implement emergency procedures.
Report all incidents/accidents on the appropriate form and provide to supervisor within 24 hours.
Work scheduled hours, including starting and ending classes on time; stay after class to answer questions and clean up supplies.
Attend all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
Support the Strong Community Campaign fundraising efforts.
Perform all other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience Requirements:
Minimum age 16
Physical/Mental Requirements:
Perform physical activities such as climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing for extended periods, walking, lifting, and carrying up to 35 pounds; communicate verbally.
Demonstrate maturity, patience, dependability, and a desire to work with all ages, especially children.
Visually monitor all sections of an assigned zone or area.
Hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
Remain alert and maintain concentration for long periods to ensure safety.
Make independent, sound decisions in a rapidly changing environment.
Show initiative in the absence of supervision.
Relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
Maintain a neat and professional appearance.

Attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hire.
Complete BLS/AED, First Aid, O2, and YSL training in accordance with employment conditions.
Understand and abide by all policies and procedures of the association.
Work a schedule that meets the branch’s needs.
