Overview

The generalist Credit Underwriter serves as a flexible, utility player within the bank’s credit team, responsible for underwriting a diverse range of loan types including, but not limited to, consumer, private banking, home builder, and business loans. This role supports multiple lines of business and collaborates closely with relationship managers, credit officers, and loan operations to ensure sound credit decisions and timely service delivery. Responsibilities

Underwrite and analyze credit requests across multiple segments, including but not limited to: Consumer Lending (personal, unsecured)

Private Banking (high-net-worth clients, complex personal financials) Home Builder Lending (spec, pre-sold, A&D loans) Small Business / Commercial Lending (SBA, C&I)

Prepare detailed credit memos with financial analysis, risk assessment, and recommendations. Review borrower financial statements, tax returns, credit reports, and collateral documentation. Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, regulatory guidelines, and loan documentation standards. Partner with relationship managers to structure deals that meet client needs while mitigating risk. Participate in loan committee discussions and present underwriting findings as needed. Monitor existing portfolio performance and assist with renewals, modifications, and covenant tracking. Support special projects, credit initiatives, and process improvements across lending teams. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree ideally in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field. 5+ years of experience in credit analysis, underwriting, or loan analysis, preferably in a community or regional bank. Strong understanding of credit principles, financial statement analysis, and loan structuring. Ability to work across multiple lending verticals with agility and attention to detail. Comfortable managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Consumer or Private Banking credit experience is preferred. Formal credit training is preferred.
