The Senior Credit Underwriter will play a critical role in the bank’s credit risk management process by evaluating and approving complex credit applications for commercial and consumer lending. They will be responsible for conducting thorough financial analysis, assessing credit worthiness, and ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. This role requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to make informed credit decisions that align with the bank’s risk appetite and strategic goals. Duties & Responsibilities

Evaluate creditworthiness of individuals and businesses applying for loans. Analyze financial statements, tax returns, cash flow projections, and credit reports. Assess risk factors and determine appropriate credit structures. Underwrite complex credit applications for commercial, consumer, or real estate loans. Ensure loan terms comply with internal credit policies and regulatory requirements. Make credit decisions within delegated authority or recommend to higher approval levels. Monitor existing loan portfolios for signs of credit deterioration or risk exposure. Conduct periodic reviews and risk assessments of borrower performance. Recommend risk mitigation strategies or restructuring when necessary. Prepare detailed credit memos and risk assessments for presentation to credit committees. Maintain accurate and up-to-date underwriting records and documentation. Ensure compliance with audit and regulatory standards. Work closely with relationship managers, loan officers, and credit analysts to structure deals. Communicate underwriting decisions and rationale clearly to internal stakeholders. Ensure adherence to bank credit policies, procedures, and lending guidelines. Identify areas for process improvement and contribute to policy updates. Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and economic conditions. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior underwriters and analysts. Review and approve work completed by less experienced team members. Support training initiatives and knowledge sharing within the credit team. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field Master’s degrees in Finance are preferred 5–10 years of experience in credit underwriting, preferably in a banking or financial services environment Proven track record of handling complex credit transactions and large loan portfolios Experience with commercial, consumer, or real estate lending, depending on the bank’s focus Proven track record of managing large and complex credit portfolios Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong proficiency in financial statement analysis, credit scoring, and risk assessment Familiarity with loan origination systems, credit risk software, and financial modeling tools Deep understanding of credit policies, regulatory requirements (e.g., Basel III, OSFI guidelines), and lending practices Strong analytical and decision-making skills Ability to maintain confidentiality Excellent communication skills, both written and oral Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams Seniority level
