and Director of PhD Program.

Established in 1957, the Wurzweiler School of Social Work (WSSW), with thriving MSW, PhD, and DSW programs, enjoys an international reputation for academic excellence within the larger academic community of Yeshiva University.

The Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University in New York, NY, seeks a PhD Director and faculty member (rank commensurate with qualifications) to provide academic and administrative leadership combined with Ph.D. teaching responsibilities.

EFFECTIVE DATE:

Summer or Fall 2025

Position Responsibilities The Director will provide academic direction and leadership to a leading Ph.D. program in the nation at a University ranked in the top 100 to ensure that doctoral students receive scholarly advising, are productive in their research, and move through the program on time. Other primary responsibilities include:

Recruitment of new students

Chairing the Ph.D. faculty Committee

Working with and supervising office staff

Oversight of Ph.D. curriculum

Providing coordination and direction to the Ph.D. program

Review and updating Ph.D. program policies, procedures and catalog. This includes comprehensive examination, proposal, and dissertation guidelines.

Management of Ph.D. program assessment activities

Ensure compliance with New York State Education Department rules, standards, and reporting

Working with other University units, such as the registrar, Provost's Office, and Financial Aid

Work closely with the Associate Dean to coordinate course scheduling and teaching assignments for the Ph.D. program

Work with the Ph.D. faculty to review advising procedures and protocols, degree requirements, and deadlines

Plan and implement Ph.D. orientations and other events related to the life cycle of PhD students

Teach in the Ph.D. program

Mentoring Ph.D. faculty, chairs, and committee members

Student mentoring and advisement

Engage in scholarly research and publication

Serve on Wurzweiler committees

Experience & Educational Background

A Ph.D. in Social Work or related field

Accomplished research and publication record

Commitment to quality doctoral education in Social Work

Excellent academic leadership and interpersonal skills

Must have expertise in research, program, and curriculum planning, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Skills & Competencies

University teaching on the doctoral level

Leadership of an academic unit

Strong record of research, scholarly publications, and successful grant activity

Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse faculty and student body

Commitment to intellectual rigor and collaboration

This position requires a highly organized, flexible candidate who enjoys the administrative challenges of supporting a small office of diverse people and programs

Salary Range $70,000 - $105,000
