Position Summary

Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS)

provides clinical oversight, technical assistance, and skill development to program staff regarding all aspects of behavior support services. This role collaborates with staff, program supervisors, families, and other support providers to deliver behavioral services to individuals across residential and/or day services. The BIS may require a flexible schedule, including weekends, and may answer after-hours calls for emergencies. The BIS will also provide oversight to the Behavior Therapy Technician in relation to behavioral components of the job. Position Qualifications

Level 1: A. (1) Master’s degree in a clinical or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology, or applied psychology related to human development and clinical interventions, with documented training in assessment techniques and behavior support plan development; or (2) a national board certification in behavior analysis (BCBA) or NYS license as a Behavior Analyst (LBA); or (3) a New York State license in mental health counseling. B. At least three years of experience: (1) working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities and developing/monitoring behavior support plans; or (2) providing supervision and training to others in behavior support plans; or C. Employed as a Level 2 BIS at the master’s degree level for three years. Level 2: A. BCBA or LBA and a master’s degree in behavior analysis or a closely related field approved by OPWDD; or B. (1) a master’s degree in a clinical or treatment field or a NYS license in mental health counseling, and (2) OPWDD-approved specialized training/experience in functional assessment techniques and behavior support plan development; or C. (1) a bachelor’s degree in a human services field; (2) experience providing behavioral services in the OPWDD system since 12/31/2012; and (3) actively pursuing a master’s degree or completing graduate-level coursework in applied psychology, social work, or special education each year. Knowledge : Principles and procedures of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA); principles of Positive Behavior Support; principles of behavior management and Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA). Skills and Abilities : Communicate effectively with diverse individuals in writing and oral form Establish interpersonal relationships and encourage participation in center-based and community inclusion activities Supervise and train subordinate personnel Interact with parents, guardians and professionals regarding individual plans and progress meeting information Required Certification/Registration:

FBA certified or attained within the first month of employment. BCaBA or BCBA certification preferred or pursuing. Physical Requirements: Postural: walking, standing, sitting, reaching, kneeling as listed; CPR ability Dexterity: grip, hand coordination, medication handling, keyboard use; lift 50 lbs; push/pull equipment up to initial 27 lbs, sustained 15 lbs Working Conditions:

May include slip/trip hazards, odors, inclement weather, medical wastes, illness, and offsite locations that may not be heated or cooled. Corporate Compliance:
