The Deputy Sheriff performs a variety of duties related to the protection of life, limb and property. Interact positively with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team, and function under time pressure; respond positively to supervision. Perform other related duties as required and maintain the physical, mental and emotional abilities to perform essential job duties. Essential functions include testifying, serving subpoenas and court orders, handling reports, maintaining equipment and firearms, vehicle inspection and maintenance, field investigations, arrest and transportation of detainees, crime investigation, traffic control, and public safety duties as described in the listed responsibilities. Education, Certification, and Experience
High School or GED Valid Florida driver's license State of Florida, Basic Recruit, Certificate of Compliance after training CJSTC or comparable out-of-state training Proficiency in mandatory in-service training as delineated in General Orders 33.5 Successful completion of Polk County Sheriff's Office Field Training Program Prior law enforcement experience is preferred but not mandatory Environment and Skills
Work may involve rotating 12 hour shifts; exposure to inclement weather and potentially dangerous situations Ability to operate a motor vehicle, weapons proficiency, radio operation, report writing, and community interaction Knowledge of Florida statutes, PCSO policies, and criminal justice processes Physical and Other Requirements
