Overview
Head Swim Coach Under the guidance of the Aquatics Director, the Head Swim Coach will assist in instruction and coaching of the swim team in accordance with the YMCA of San Diego County and/or USA Swimming standards. Prepare swim team area for workout Conduct appropriate stretching and warm-up/cool-down activities Maintain safety and discipline during workouts and meets Schedule and host team swim meets Respond to the individual needs of participants Assist in providing a variety of demonstration, explanation, and practice and skill correction during each workout Assist in effective communication with athletes and parents in a friendly manner and providing appropriate encouragement Participate in YMCA events Attend staff and aquatics’ trainings Supervise swim coaches Visual and auditory ability to critical incidents, and the physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations Ability to adequately observe participant’s activities, enforce safety regulations, and apply appropriate policies and procedures Other duties as assigned needs to be included to all roles Qualifications
Minimum age of 18 years of age At least three (3) year coaching experience required Two (2) years’ experience competitive swimming Current CPR PRO/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute Current First Aid certification and must be from one of the following certifying organization: American Red Cross, American Heart Association or American Safety & Health Institute Must have one of the following:
Safety Training for Swim Coaches Online Content Only certification & Safety Training for Swim Coaches In Water Session certification OR Safety Training for Swim Coaches (final certification if an ARC certification trainer upload requirements it for a final version) OR Safety Training for Swim Coaches Online Content Only certification & valid Lifeguard certification
Principles of Competitive Swimming & Diving within 30 days YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (will be required if supervising off-site events) desirable YMCA or WSI Swim Lesson certification desirable Safety training for Swim Coaches desirable YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (YSL) Certification desirable Familiarity with Meet Manager and Team Manager software desirable YMCA will consider qualified applicants with a criminal history pursuant to the San Diego County Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act. You do not need to disclose your criminal history or participate in a background check until a conditional job offer is made to you.
