May 2014 PURPOSE OF JOB
Teaches sheltered Science content to ESL students in Levels I or II of English Language Proficiency by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructs students by lecturing, demonstrating, and using audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations. Adapts content and modifies assignments to accommodate students’ language proficiency level. Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school. Assigns lessons and corrects homework. Administers tests to evaluate pupil progress, records results, and issues reports to inform parents of progress. Keeps an attendance record. Maintains discipline in the classroom. Meets with parents to discuss student progress and problems. Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops. Performs related duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting pupils in selecting course of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from a four-year college or university. Missouri State Certification in subject area(s) Science (5-9) and/or Science (9-12) and/or Unified Science (9-12). ESOL Certification. Native or near-native speaker-like English language proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. SUCCESS FACTORS

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Length of work year: 185 day calendar; 8hrs/day, 5 days/week. Benefits: Health and Dental Insurance are provided. KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan – mandatory 8.5% contribution is required from employee and matched by KCPS; Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.
