Responsibilities:
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Belmont University is seeking applications for one or more one-year lecturer positions beginning August 1, 2021. Depending on performance and university/department needs, the position(s) could be extended for additional years.
Job responsibilities
Twenty-four hours of undergraduate teaching per year (typically four three-hour courses each semester) in mathematics and related areas. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to and preparation for excellence in teaching mathematics and related areas to undergraduates. Eighteen graduate-level credit hours in mathematics or a related discipline is required; teaching experience preferred. As all Belmont undergraduates complete an innovative general education program with significant interdisciplinary components, Belmont University is preferably seeking applicants who can demonstrate the interest and ability to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses in this program. Create syllabus, timeline of classes, for students each semester. Provide meeting time for students. Manage online grading system and submit grades in a timely fashion. Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the field of study. Knowledge of subject matter and course content taught. Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques. Demonstrated capacity to engage in high quality scholarly activity. Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students. Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software. Ability to learn relevant sections of BannerWeb, Belmont University’s online integrated database system for student grading. Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process. Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University. Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
Required Education
Master's with 18 hours of graduate level mathematics courses.
Preferred Required
Required Experience
Higher education teaching experience preferred.
The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
