Job Description
Position Summary: LTYC is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Part-Time Martial Arts Instructor to teach structured, age-appropriate martial arts classes for students in grades K–8. The ideal candidate will focus on promoting physical fitness, discipline, self-control, respect, and confidence through martial arts training. Classes may include techniques from disciplines such as karate, taekwondo, judo, kung fu, or mixed martial arts, adapted for a school setting. This is an independent contractor position and not an employee role.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and lead engaging martial arts classes that build strength, coordination, discipline, and confidence.
Teach foundational techniques including stances, strikes, blocks, forms, and self-defense basics, modified appropriately for children.
Emphasize values such as respect, responsibility, perseverance, and focus.
Incorporate physical fitness, stretching, and mindfulness into lessons.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Manage student behavior in alignment with the school's expectations.
Prepare students for informal demonstrations or showcases (if applicable).
Collaborate with staff for cross-disciplinary learning opportunities or events.
Maintain cleanliness, equipment safety, and orderly classroom setup.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Black belt or equivalent rank in a recognized martial arts discipline.
At least 3 years of prior experience teaching martial arts to children, ideally in an elementary or middle school setting.
Strong classroom management skills and a student-centered teaching approach.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to adapt lessons for different age groups and learning styles.
Passion for the arts and a commitment to nurturing creativity in young learners.
Additional Requirements:
Independent Contractor Agreement: Must be signed upon acceptance.
References: Three professional references required, including at least one from a previous position working with children.
Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to and from school site(s).
Certifications:
Valid CPR & First Aid certification.
Proof of educational background and professional certifications (if applicable).
Health Clearance:
A letter from a physician confirming candidate is in good health , free from communicable diseases (including TB).
Must provide a current background check from CJIS (including state, federal, and childcare clearance).
