Role Summary The Environmental Engineer is responsible for ensuring environmental compliance of the Wastewater system and other environmental areas at the Mill. Areas of responsibility include Title V, wastewater, solid and hazardous waste streams, DOT shipments, and environmental management systems. The person in this position will demonstrate due diligence and environmental stewardship which will help the mill achieve continued regulatory compliance. A continuous focus on working safely and providing guidance for safety improvement is required. The Environmental Engineer Associate report to the Environmental Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
Knowledge and understanding of the paper mill’s Wastewater Permits and its compliance parameters and reporting requirements
Familiarity with mill’s federal and state water permits to assist with water permit compliance issues when needed
Coordinate collection and perform analysis of environmental information to quantify and report environmental impacts and performance
Oversee compliance activities for water quality to assure timely and effective completion of mill environmental activities including company policy, state and federal regulations, on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual basis
Implement projects and best management practices which will help the mill’s environmental systems achieve continued compliance
Participate in strategic planning for water quality compliance on process improvement projects
Assist in compliance review inspections, audits and assessments by corporate and governmental agencies
Respond to and track all concerns, complaints and queries from regulators and audit findings
Financial management including managing budgets and compliance with financial controls
Ensure timely completion and accuracy of monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual state and federal environmental reports required to demonstrate compliance, as well as required internal mill daily, monthly and annual reports
Coordinate with GaEPD and MWA and water quality consultant in maintaining the WWTS permit, including five (5) year renewals and assessed fees payments
Assist in development and submittal of NPDES permit modifications in support of mill operations
Assist in reporting of environmental incidents, participate in incident investigations, assist in drafting investigation reports and assist in development and execution of corrective actions based on investigation recommendations
Operation and coordination of maintenance of WWTS equipment including samplers, aerators, chemical addition, flow meters and level gauges.
Work with environmental lab personnel on collection and shipping of environmental samples
Assist in oversight of environmental lab personnel for daily compliance and internal mill testing, quarterly WWTS performance testing, and annual groundwater monitoring
Assist environmental lab personnel in maintaining and troubleshooting lab equipment and procedures
Assist in conducting environmental training for new hires and annual environmental refresher training
Contract management and coordination for environmental activities and projects
Other duties as assigned
Required Skills
Knowledge of environmental regulations and how they apply
Experience working with state and federal regulatory agencies
Demonstrated track record of success at working in team environments with focus on safety, results, and ability to prioritize tasks and solve problems
Proven ability to communicate, verbally and written, with employees at all levels of the organization, contractor employees, venders, and Government Officials
Computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite for communication and data tracking and analysis
Effective interpersonal and analytical skills
Must be able to pass a background check, drug screening and reference check
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Confidentiality, Ethics and values, Integrity and Trust, Timely problem solving, Decision making, Approachability, Communication, Customer focus, Priority Setting, Time Management, Functional/Technical Skills and Knowledge
Experience Bachelor\'s degree or 3 years’ experience
Pay Range: $53,550.00-$71,400.00
