This position is open only to Colorado state residents. The Division of Youth Services (DYS) is committed to protecting, restoring and improving public safety through trauma‑responsive programs that promote accountability to victims, communities and help youth lead constructive lives. Location

Physical job location: 7862 W Mansfield Pkwy, Lakewood, CO 80235. Division Overview

DYS provides a continuum of services that encompass juvenile detention, assessment, commitment and parole, including 15 secure facilities serving youth ages 10‑21. The agency is statutorily mandated to care for youth committed by the District Court to the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services and to administer juvenile parole services throughout the state. Key Responsibilities

Safety/Security

– Provide direct care, safety and supervision of adjudicated and pre‑adjudicated youth in a secure setting, enforce behavioral management plans, intervene in crisis situations, de‑escalate, use physical response/restraint in emergency situations and conduct searches. Youth Center Programming

– Implement the Youth Center’s behavioral management program, coach and redirect youth within the program, and support DYS initiatives and crisis intervention. Documentation/Recording and Reporting

– Document observations of youth behavior, record all unit activities in appropriate logs and database systems. Organizational Accountability

– Demonstrate respect for a positive cultural climate, adhere to CDHS Code of Conduct, DYS compliance standards and DYS policies, and support a trauma‑responsive environment. Training

– Complete DYS Pre‑Service training academy, Youth Center training and orientation, maintain and support behavior management and intervention strategies. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. One (1) year of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. Preferred Qualifications

College education in a behavioral health or juvenile justice‑related field. Experience working with adjudicated and/or detained youth within a secure residential facility or a behavioral health setting. Experience facilitating psychoeducational groups and working with adolescents who have trauma. Experience working with youth in positive leadership roles, mentoring and coaching. Experience utilizing verbal de‑escalation and motivational techniques; relevant years of state service experience. Highly Desirable Competencies

Skillful conflict management, strong work ethic, integrity and dependability. Sound judgment, decision‑making skills, self‑control and composure under stress. Clear verbal communication and ability to identify and report security breaches. Ability to document events concisely and legibly. Benefits
