We are seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Sorter to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at 653 Charles St. in San Jose and limited job-related travel may be required. Position Summary
GreenWaste is seeking to fill the position of Sorter to provide support to one or more facilities. This role’s main function will sort a variety of material that ranges from recyclables to trash in order to minimize contamination and to maintain high recyclable rates. Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Follow company and OSHA safety procedures to ensure safety. Extract at least 48 items per minute to maximize the recycling potential. Follow directions, daily procedures, and protocols. Work near others while sorting material from either side of the conveyor belt to increase productivity. Stand and collect material for extended periods in front of a conveyor belt with good manual dexterity. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to distinguish between commodities to properly separate material. Reliable transportation, punctuality, and dependability to minimize disruptions. Ability to work as a team and with others. Language Skill
Proficiency in English and/or Spanish. Physical Demands
Ability to handle material weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires constant pushing, pulling, reaching, bending, and grasping to prevent mis-sorted material. Requires going up and down stairs to reach certain workstations. Work Environment
Fast-paced work environment with exposure to loud noises, heat, cold, sharp objects, and odors. Required PPE: hard hat, safety glasses, work boots, safety vests, and gloves at all times. Shifts vary; regular workdays may range from 4-12 hours depending on daily tonnage. Overtime may be required.
