Environmental, Health, & Safety Manager (Biotech) Overview

Dunbarton Corporation is seeking a Environmental, Health, & Safety Manager to join our team who is responsible for promoting safety awareness and cultivating the safety culture throughout Dunbarton by actively communicating with employees at all levels including managing and sustaining safety related policies, planning, coordinating, and administering programs related to accident prevention, the environment and loss control while ensuring Dunbarton complies with EHS laws and regulations, participating in audits and incident investigations, and carrying out resulting corrective actions.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement comprehensive safety, health, and environmental (EHS) programs to prevent accidents, ensure regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, local, state, federal), and drive continuous improvement towards short and long-term EHS goals. Lead and champion a strong safety culture by actively promoting safety throughout the workplace, partnering with management to set expectations and goals, and providing strategic guidance to leaders and employees. Manage all EHS-related documentation and record-keeping, including biohazard disposal and compliance reporting for accidents, incidents, and worker's compensation. Thoroughly investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses and create investigative reports for senior leadership to mitigate future risks. Oversee and administer the worker's compensation program, collaborating with carriers and medical professionals for effective injury and illness management. Conduct and coordinate all EHS training programs, including safety orientations, ongoing safety reviews, health education, emergency response, and proper use of safety equipment (e.g., PPE). Perform regular workplace inspections and audits to evaluate environmental, equipment, and practices, ensuring adherence to EHS regulations and internal policies. Develop and maintain industrial hygiene programs (e.g., noise surveys, atmosphere monitoring, hearing protection, ventilation surveys). Supervise the Safety Committee and ensure robust emergency response coverage, leadership, and resources. Stay current on all legislative and regulatory EHS updates through continuous learning and professional development. Maintain safety policies and procedures to prevent work related accidents and injuries. Adheres to work schedule and attendance requirements, including nights and weekends. Performs other work as directed and required.

Qualifications

Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) regulations and compliance. Knowledge of Environmental Protection (EP) standards and hazardous waste management. Knowledge of Alabama Workers Compensation Laws and regulations. Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety laws, statutes, and ordinances. Skill in risk assessment and hazard identification. Skill in safety auditing and inspections. Skill in training and facilitation. Skill in documentation and record keeping for risk mitigation. Ability to effectively manage safety and environmental programs. Ability to adapt to changing regulations and environments. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with coworkers and customers. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than individual concerns.
