Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE:

The position of Debate Advisor is responsible for serving as an advisor to the High School Debate Club.

Organize championship caliber skills training in the areas of:

Engineering, mechanics, computer science.

Advertising

Volunteerism

Competition

Train students for competition in robotics events through FIRST Robotics.

Safety: Ensure meetings are held in a safe location and that proper supervision is always in place.

Leadership mentor: Train student leads (president, vice president, etc.) in the area of leadership skills.

Students must learn about how to run meetings, write agendas, and long term planning for the build season.

Oversee the mentors who work with the program.

Organize practices to train the team for upcoming events.

Organize transportation, budget, and logistics in support of a team whose membership could easily reach 50 students.

Assemble tournament rosters and submit entries on time to the league/tournament managers.

Establish a competition schedule that provides a challenging and rewarding competitive environment while meeting budget parameters.

Manage the accounting of team performance points through accurate record keeping and reporting.

Conduct fund-raising activities as needed to support team activities.

Serve on league and state committees as required.

Establish working relationships with program advisors in the feeder middle schools to ensure a high-quality talent pool.

Reporting Relationships Reports directly to and is supervised by the Director of Athletics and Activities

Supervises: Volunteers and Mentors related to screening and assignment

Education & Experience

Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

3 years’ administrative support experience or equivalent

Preferred:

Experience in a school setting

Bi-lingual or multi-lingual

Allowable Substitutions:

Education and experience may be substituted for required experience

Licensing Requirements

Proficient in Microsoft including Word, Outlook, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Access, as well as SharePoint.

Ability to perform all duties in accordance with all applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements.

Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. May work outdoors in inclement weather. May require physical mobility to move through a school campus, including up and down stairs and inside and outside. Conditions of Employment

This is a temporary hourly position with no benefits. Hourly rate $28.26/hour. Months, days and hours may vary depending upon assignment. Note
