Department Summary Safety and Risk Services (SRS) mission is to collaborate with all campus constituents (students, staff, faculty, and visitors) and the surrounding community to safeguard life and health and mitigate threats to the university’s core mission of academic excellence, research, and public service. SRS includes Emergency Management and Continuity, Environmental Health and Safety, Campus Mapping, Risk & Insurance, and the University of Oregon Police Department, and employs around 125 staff with an annual operating budget of approximately $15 million.

Position Summary The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Occupational Safety Program Coordinator and Ergonomist reports to the EHS Occupational Health and Safety Manager and is directly responsible for managing ergonomics programs on the Eugene campus and satellite campuses, overseeing ergonomics and hearing conservation program vendors, managing EHS department contracts with other occupational health and safety program service providers, and being available for 24‑hour call‑back response as needed. The position requires occasional travel to other campuses.

Work Schedule Typical schedule is 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, in person in Eugene, Oregon, with occasional work at the Portland campus and Oregon Institute of Marine Biology. The incumbent must be available on short notice for shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences (45 quarter hours or 32 semester hours) plus two years of related professional experience, or a satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience, and professional certifications.

Graduate‑level courses in the subject areas may substitute experience on a credit‑hour basis.

Preference may be given to applicants who have completed graduate‑level courses or have additional experience in Industrial Hygiene, occupational, public, or environmental programs. Transcripts are required for all related courses.

Preferred Qualifications

CPE or BCPE ergonomist certification, or equivalent.

Master of Science degree in a science, engineering, or public health program.

Exemptions & Requirements FLSA Exempt: No. The position requires certification as an Ergonomist within six months of hire and requires maintaining UO driver’s certification eligibility.
