The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Genetics Research Division, is seeking a skilled Researcher Associate to join their team.
The candidate will independently set up and perform experiments and procedures in support of lab goals as directed. To collect, enter, summarize and analyze data. To monitor results, detect and report unusual outcomes and suggest modifications. To develop and improve techniques for the lab.

General Responsibilities
As a Researcher Associate, this intermediate-level position will require you to independently conduct more complex studies and analyses, contributing to the advancement of research projects. With greater autonomy, you will design experiments, interpret data, and collaborate with senior researchers to develop and refine research protocols. Your role may also include mentoring junior staff and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens. Key Duties & Responsibilities
Maintain and expand animal breeding colonies according to study protocols. Provide routine animal care, maintenance and animal husbandry. Set up and track the performance of breeding pairs, document the birth, size, and sex of litters, and wean litters. Ensure appropriate record keeping for the colony. Handle, restrain, and perform routine animal techniques on animals according to study protocols. Perform standard experiments with cell lines or primary cells. Collect, enter, summarize and analyze data. Maintain safe, clean and organized laboratory environment and areas. Perform maintenance of lab equipment and supplies/reagents. Organize, maintain, and record the appropriate storage of samples. Maintain functional electronic documentation such as lab records of reagents, materials, activities and data. Perform other duties as assigned Hourly Range
$19.80 - $32.15 Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree in a related field OR Associate\'s degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience required.
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Preferences
Bachelor\'s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Pharmacology, or a closely related field upon starting the position, and at least 1 year of laboratory research experience. Recent mouse work experience, including mouse colony maintenance, mouse handling and restraint, and performing routine procedures like tail vein blood drawing, and injections. Candidate must be proficient with the use of personal computer and software packages needed to analyze and present data acquired through this lab work. Primary Location
