Overview

The University of Virginia Health System is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with a strong background in advanced wound care to join the Wound Care team within the Department of Plastic Surgery. This full‑time role focuses on managing patients with chronic, non‑healing wounds in inpatient and ambulatory settings. The APP will collaborate with the Wound Ostomy Care (WOC) team and other wound care specialists to care for adult and pediatric patients with a wide range of complex wounds, including evaluation, diagnosis, and management of chronic wounds, pressure injuries, neuropathic ulcers, burns, skin tears, traumatic wounds, surgical wounds, osteoradionecrosis, and osteomyelitis. The successful applicant will bring clinical expertise, autonomy, and a passion for delivering high‑quality wound care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, coordinating multidisciplinary care with colleagues in orthopedics, digestive health, podiatry, plastic surgery, and other specialties as needed. The role provides an opportunity to develop deep expertise in chronic wounds within an academic and supportive environment. Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized, evidence‑based treatment plans. Perform advanced wound care procedures (dressings and topical treatments, sharp debridement, compression therapy, negative pressure wound therapy, bioengineered skin substitutes, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, offloading techniques). Coordinate multidisciplinary care with teams including orthopedics, digestive health, podiatry, plastic surgery, WOC, Home Health agencies, caregivers, and other interdisciplinary providers. Document wound assessments with measurements and photographs; maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EPIC). Educate patients, caregivers, and families on wound management, prevention, and lifestyle modifications. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and stay current on advancements in wound care therapies, devices, and protocols. Contribute to clinical teaching of medical students and residents as appropriate. Provide leadership and professional development within the APP team and participate in program development, research, and departmental initiatives. Qualifications

Required: Graduate of an accredited PA or NP program. Current national certification and eligibility for Virginia licensure. BLS certification. Preferred: Wound care certification (WCC, CWON, CWS, or equivalent). Experience in wound care or related clinical field; new graduates with strong clinical interest in wound care will be considered. Understanding of healthcare systems, leadership abilities, and prior quality improvement experience. Minimum requirements: Education: Master’s Degree as an APRN or PA. Experience: One to two years of APP experience preferred. Licensure: Virginia licensure eligibility; BLS; PALS/NRP as required; ACLS as required; DEA/credentialing as applicable. Must meet credentialing requirements of UVA Medical Center and payers; ability to participate in Medicaid and Medicare billing. Physical/Work Demands:

Job requires standing for prolonged periods; ability to lift/push/pull 20–50 lbs; capable of travel and assisting with clinical duties as needed. Anticipated working hours are approximately Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. with potential adjustments; no routine call. Benefits
