Overview
Instructor, Education Programs, Part-Time role supporting public programs including youth and family programming, scout groups, therapeutic horticulture, and adult education. Supports instructional needs of other departments as needed; contributes to capacity building for outdoor and nature-based learning experiences through design, development, and delivery of learning experiences that foster wonder, curiosity and interest in the natural world. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develops, prepares and delivers engaging environmental education for learners across the Education Division. Provides lessons and activities that stimulate curiosity, appreciation of the natural world, exploration, and problem-solving. Participates in team planning sessions to ensure well-coordinated and effective delivery of instruction that meets learning goals and objectives. Assists with creating, procuring, maintaining, and organizing program and instructional resource supplies. Assists with professional development workshops and sessions for educators. Coordinates teaching schedule with Garden staff, informal science colleagues, and teachers as needed for educational programming. Ensures that all applicable safety standards are followed; informs participants of safety guidelines and safe working practices; monitors to enforce them. Adapts work methods to reduce hazards. Reports accidents and near-misses immediately. Collaborates with Public Programs Manager for development, creation, and implementation of new youth programming initiatives. Supports the maintenance and purchasing of materials needed for programming. Promotes a department culture of teamwork and mutual support; maintains open communication with the Public Programs Team and other Garden divisions. Meets expected attendance guidelines and adheres to policies and procedures, including Employee Handbook, Garden Safety Guidelines and Department Policies. Behaves and communicates in a manner that promotes teamwork and cooperation with co-workers, supervisors, volunteers, visitors and staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Competencies

Qualifications and/or Experience
Minimum of 5 years developing and delivering effective instruction (adult, youth, family education; outdoor education). Prior experience in a cultural institution preferred. Scheduling flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed. Ability to travel occasionally (local and/or domestic). Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external organizations to achieve goals in a sophisticated environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently with minimal instruction; coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Exceptional ability to communicate effectively with the general public in a safe and friendly manner. Vaccination policy: All staff are encouraged to be vaccinated as recommended by healthcare providers prior to hire; proof of vaccination may be required based on local health guidelines. Proficient in basic mathematics: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division; calculate percentages and decimals. Computer Skills
Proficient in navigating the Internet and PC applications (Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent); familiarity with smart boards or digital learning tools. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must have or be able to obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certification. Physical Demands
Ability to walk long distances in various temperatures and weather conditions; stand for extended periods during programs; bend and lift up to 30 lbs; ability to pitch a tent and use craft tools. Work Environment
Work outdoors in all weather conditions; comfortable interacting with the public and answering questions about the horticulture collection. Requires Saturday and late afternoon/evening availability. Supervisor: Manager, Public Programs
