Summary of Job Duties The Infrastructure & Research Technology Support Specialist plays a critical role within the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture (UADA) Division Information Technology Services (DITS) team. This position supports the implementation, maintenance, network infrastructure, and all research technologies across all supported UADA departments and programs. The role involves implementing and supporting technology for research and academic support while also supporting critical IT infrastructure for operational needs, including but not limited to network equipment maintenance, indoor/outdoor wireless network support, research software support, server support, building security systems, and more. It supports technologies used by UADA faculty, staff, and students while executing technology strategies that support the institution’s mission. The position provides end-user support (e.g., computer technical support, software application support, printer/scanner/copier support) to users on the Fayetteville main campus, the UADA Shult Agricultural Research & Extension Center, Research stations, and the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station headquarters and surrounding facilities. It will support special projects related to start-up research projects and assist with ITS Help Desk coverage and general end-user problem resolution for Division and University owned hardware and software.
This position reports to the UADA Division Information Technology Services Director of Infrastructure & Research/Academic Technologies. The position is based in Fayetteville, Arkansas and will require some travel across the state.
Key Responsibilities
End-User Support: Provide desktop, laptop, mobile device, and peripheral support to UADA end-users at all supported locations, with in-person and remote support.
Technology Integration & Management: Oversee deployment and maintenance of technology infrastructure supporting research and academic activities, including classroom technology support; ensure integration of new technologies to enhance teaching, learning, and research.
Research Support and Innovation: Facilitate faculty and student use of technology in research and academic settings; provide training and support for research software and tools; assist in data management plans and repositories.
Collaboration and Communication: Communicate effectively with stakeholders to understand needs and provide solutions.
Training and Development: Design and deliver training on academic technologies; promote best practices; train IT personnel to ensure proper support by DITS Helpdesk and Field Operations; stay current with emerging technologies in higher education.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, information systems, network systems, or related areas plus one (1) year of relevant professional experience.
Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of human resources.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Windows Server, Linux administration, virtualization (Hyper-V), and Active Directory/Group Policy.
Experience with enterprise applications such as Oracle, Banner, MAPS, Argos, or Workday.
Knowledge of network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
Familiarity with Office 365 administration, cybersecurity best practices, and data backup/recovery solutions.
Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
Experience supporting academic/research technology in higher education.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of data, voice, video, and wireless network systems.
Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot servers, databases, and enterprise applications.
Ability to perform system monitoring, log review, and proactive maintenance.
Strong understanding of security practices, compliance standards, and disaster recovery planning.
Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
Ability to train and mentor IT staff and end-users.
Commitment to professional growth and continuous improvement.
