Job Title: Radiation Technician Position Overview Perform surveys, inspections, sample collections, and sample analysis in support of the Safety program at NFS. All work is done in accordance with written procedures. Most work involves a knowledge of mathematics and some chemistry. Location:
Onsite in Erwin, TN Your Day To Day As a Radiation Technician
Perform contamination surveys – building, outside control, transition zones, etc. Collect and analyze stack samples. Inspect emergency eye wash fountains and safety showers. Perform personnel surveys. Inspect fire protection equipment. Calibrate air sampler and adjust flow meter rates. Inspect emergency lights. Survey respirator devices, assemble and maintain. Sample and analyze from sewer, ponds, streams, wells, etc. Analyze vegetation and soil samples. Collect and analyze IBM air samples. Measure toxic fumes. Perform contamination release surveys. Take high volume air samples. Perform noise level surveys. Make minor instrument repairs (such as hand monitors, PAC 4-G) Perform nasal smears and count. Perform shipping release surveys/labels, and recording of measurements. Inspect emergency shelter equipment. Perform routine dose rate surveys – beta/gamma. Perform response check and repair of hand monitors (replace face plates and batteries, cords, etc.). Set up and analyze results of portable air samplers. Change safety numbers and letters on plant safety bulletin board. Record data from instrumentation, requiring basic multiplication and division. Perform some lab analyses – environmental, stack sample, water, air samples. Check pH on water samples. Load and unload film badges. Weigh CO2 cylinders. Calibrate Air Sample Flow Meters. Perform calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division – usually calculated using a hand-held calculator. Required Qualifications
High School Diploma One year of College Chemistry or may substitute one year of College Physics Pay: $36.15 - $36.15 per year.
