We have a perfect opportunity at our Commerce City refinery, which is the largest refinery in the Rocky Mountain region and the only petroleum refinery in Colorado.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot problems and find opportunities to improve the reliability of the refinery's equipment

Perform calibrations, loop checking, troubleshooting, repair, and start-up on field devices

Implement programs for preventive and predictive maintenance of instrumentation systems

Plan work, including equipment evaluation and selection

Use charts and data to conduct analysis and properly diagnose equipment failures

Improve uptime production numbers by providing calibration accuracy and reliability

Respond to callouts and emergencies and provide major maintenance support

Use SAP to capture work orders, instrument reports, maintenance and reliability data, and fault codes trend analysis

Qualifications / Requirements

A High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

A valid driver's license with a driving record acceptable to Suncor

Knowledge of low voltage distribution systems, distributed control system (DCS) operation and configuration, programmable logic controller (PLC) operation / programming, electrical / instrument control device settings and calibrations, reading and interpreting circuit, process and instrumentation diagrams

An Associate's Degree (diploma) in the Instrument and Controls field

OR successful completion of a formal program in the field of Process Instrumentation through military service or crafts apprenticeship program with 5 years of recent practical experience in maintenance of industrial instrumentation and controls equipment (calibration of smart transmitters, PLC, DCS, AMS, rebuild control valves, etc).

OR current Instrument Society of Automation (ISA) Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST) Level I and 5 years of recent practical experience in maintenance of industrial instrumentation and controls equipment (calibration of smart transmitters, PLC, DCS, AMS, rebuild control valves, etc)

Location and key details

Work location : Commerce City refinery, located at 5801 Brighton Blvd.

Hours : 40-hour work week, 5x8 hour shifts Monday–Friday OR 4x10 hour shifts Monday–Thursday, depending on business needs

Paid overtime, often 100-600+ hours per year based on plant needs

Safety and environmental requirements : may perform heavy lifting, use ladders, work on elevated sites such as scaffolds and towers, and work in various environments including confined spaces

Safety sensitive position

Pre-employment checks : drug testing, employment verification, education verification, background checks, and other pre-employment assessments as a condition of employment

Compensation and benefits

Union represented position under USW 12-477

Hourly rate : $53.04 per hour with annual increases

Benefits : medical options (including HSA and FSA), dental, vision, and Employee Assistance Plan

401(k) plan with up to a 6% vested match

Suncor-funded Cash Balance defined benefit pension plan (vests in 3 years)
