Overview The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) Sheriff’s Office administers tax revenue laws and enforces court mandates, pursuing criminal investigations of real property fraud, tax crimes, and the trafficking of untaxed tobacco products and synthetic narcotics. The Investigator serves as the primary liaison between the Sheriff’s Office and Human Resources Administration (HRA), ensuring accurate, up‑to‑date case‑related information and providing reliable statistical and investigative reports to leadership.

Responsibilities

Collect, verify, and maintain up‑to‑date HRA information to support timely case processing.

Maintain and update files, orders, and databases to ensure the accuracy and availability of case records.

Track and compile data to produce comprehensive reports for the Sheriff and First Deputy upon request.

Report results of investigations clearly and accurately.

Utilize computer systems to assist with the processing, tracking, and analysis of investigations.

Examine and analyze records and documents to identify relevant information and potential discrepancies.

Perform tasks such as answering phones, filing, and organizing documentation to support office operations.

Minimum Qualifications

A four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least two years of satisfactory full‑time experience as an investigator evaluating credit worthiness, searching for assets, verifying information concerning education, experience, and other personal qualifications bearing upon character and fitness for employment; or performing investigations involving the research, compilation and/or location of evidence or information in order to build a case or uncover activities of a criminal, corrupt, unlawful or unethical nature.

An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college; or

Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above; undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits, from an accredited college, for one year of full‑time experience. However, all candidates must have at least a four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.

Preferred Skills

Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.

Proficiency in data entry and computer systems used for investigations.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience in an investigative, administrative, or data‑driven role is preferred.

Accuracy and thoroughness in recordkeeping.

Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive cases.
