Overview
Personal Financial Counselor; Dobbins ARS, GA – Magellan Health This position provides personal financial services at assigned military installations, offering education and counseling on financial services to military service members and their families. Services include one-on-one counseling, consultations with a commander or other providers, briefings and presentations, and referrals to resources outside a counseling session. The counselor works with installation and military branch Points of Contact (POC) to ensure the program meets installation needs and remains within scope.
Responsibilities
Provide personal financial counseling and management services directly to service members and their families.
Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences.
Develop and distribute informational financial materials to service members and families.
Coordinate and deliver Personal Financial Management classes/workshops on topics across the military lifecycle (e.g., arrival at first duty station, pre- and post-deployment) per DoDI 1322.34.
Respond to requests for age-appropriate classes or seminars.
Utilize virtual counseling or other electronic communication modes (web-based, secure online chat, video teleconference) as authorized.
Manage duty to warn situations according to DoD protocol.
Communicate with leadership and participate in regular supervision, sharing trends and issues from assigned installations.
Participate in in-services/training and quality improvement activities as assigned.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required. May consider an associate degree plus 4 years’ experience, or a high school diploma plus 6 years’ experience, in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
3+ years of financial counseling experience.
U.S. citizen and fluent in English; bilingual in English and Spanish if required by contract.
Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
Ability to pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
One of the following certifications: Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
