EDUCATION:
High School Diploma required. Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language at a level sufficient to communicate effectively with clients, members, guests, and co-workers. Bilingual a plus. TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
Three years’ experience maintaining commercial and/or residential plant material, including annual flower maintenance, design and maintenance of container plantings, and maintenance of interior plant foliage. A valid state driver’s license is required. JOB SUMMARY:
Horticulturist to monitor the property grounds, maintain the appearance of all annual flower beds, planters, and other grounds features, install new flowers and plants, and maintain room balcony and all interior plant containers, baskets, and boxes. Maintain an on-site nursery of a wide variety of woody and tropical plant material, which includes watering, fertilization, pruning, and pest control. JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of horticultural techniques such as propagation, fertilization, pruning, and pest control. Ability to operate equipment used in horticulture, such as vehicles, chemical application equipment, and mowers. Knowledge of irrigation systems and techniques is a plus. Ability to identify plant diseases and pests and apply appropriate treatments. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or with a team. Attention to detail and proficiency in the design of containerized plantings. PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Must be able to drive a motor vehicle; lift, carry, and move 50 pounds; work outside in all weather conditions for long periods; dig and sweep; work in difficult positions to access equipment; and work with hands. DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS: Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays if needed. Arrive to work on time, consistently. Upon entering the property, arrive in proper uniform, crisp, clean, and in good repair. Hair must be clean and cut in a becoming style; management has final approval. Attend all required training and safety courses along with office and departmental meetings. Manage all phases of plant production to assure timely propagation of plants for various seasonal exhibits and displays within existing greenhouse conditions. Responsible for horticultural integrity and appropriateness (or involved in these discussions). Work with staff to encourage and promote teamwork and interdepartmental cooperation resulting in a collaborative work environment between horticulture and other departments. Maintain high safety standards. Establish and enforce standards of exterior appearance and courtesy.
