Independent Contractor Position Overview:
The Spanish In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of settings. This contract position is flexible and an opportunity to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day. Responsibilities
Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner. Always exhibit professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions. Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing situations. Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context. Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment. Respect for and understanding of LEP clients, culture, dialect and beliefs and preferences. Strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting. Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions. Render exact and correct concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol. Qualifications
Fluent with strong verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English (source and target languages). Excellent listening and retention skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation. Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or existing national certification. Extensive knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI and NCIHC). Must be at least 18 years of age. Preferred Qualifications
Ability to read and write in the requested languages. Degree or certifications in interpreting practices. National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI or DSHS. Accredited medical interpreting training (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses). Seniority level
