About the Role
We are looking for an Underground Geologist to support the development of underground mining at Bingham Canyon. The primary responsibilities for this position are LiDAR scanning and processing of faces and development, geologic/geotechnical mapping of each blasted round, and ore/waste classification/delineation. Responsibilities also include sample management of the daily sampling program, ore stockpile tracking and management, underground drill rig safety visits, quick logging of underground core and chips, and updating geologic models based on mapped and logged relationships. Data collected during lateral development will be entered into the database and is required for continuously improving the Integrated Skarns ore body knowledge.
Reporting to the Senior Geologist and working collaboratively with all operational and functional departments, you will be responsible for:
Application of technical knowledge to ensure laser scanning and geologic and geotechnical mapping is completed in a timely manner, meeting all requirements of the Ground Control Management Plan
Ensures collected data is compiled into appropriate databases in a timely fashion for distribution to other technical teams
Collaborates with Senior Geologists for technical advice and recommendation
Analyzes data collected during laser scanning, daily geologic and geotechnical mapping and logging comparing to and updating geologic 3D models, and notifying of any significant conflicts or changes
Utilizes all information available to understand the geological and geotechnical aspects of the ore body and identify ore/waste contacts in the field
Support geologic and geotechnical mapping needs for Hydrogeology and Geotechnical Engineers
What you’ll bring
Degree qualification in geology or related field
Strong commitment to safety and promotion of a safety culture
At least 2 years in underground mining or complex poly-metallic deposits
Experience conducting field geologic mapping activities (surface or underground)
Ability to work in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure data and models are communicated and integrated across the business
Strong communication skills, including preparation of technical reports and presentations to peers from other mine disciplines and senior management
Ability to solve and communicate technical problems with practical solutions
It will also be beneficial if you have:
Knowledge of porphyry systems and mineralization
Understanding of Economic Geology with emphasis on copper porphyry deposits
Experience using Excel, AcQuire, and 3D modelling software (Leapfrog, Vulcan, or equivalent).

Where you will be working
Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States.
