Assess English Language Proficiency of Non-English Language Background (NELB) students for all newly arriving students. Assist in the administration of the state-mandated English Language Proficiency Assessment (ELP) annual test. Analyze and interpret English Language Proficiency test results and document the test results in the student information system. Responsibilities

Administer the state-mandated English Language Proficiency (ELP) initial placement test and state-mandated English Language Proficiency (ELP) annual test. Explain English Language Proficiency testing procedures, scores, and services to students and parents. Analyze and interpret English Language Proficiency test results for the district staff as well as students, parents, and community members. Work with district and school staff to set testing appointments. Use a rubric to score the English Language Proficiency (ELP) assessment and calculate the final score, determining the student’s language proficiency level. Make recommendations for grade and school placement of students who have been assessed. Act as a resource and serve as a liaison for issues involving second language acquisition and for students who have additional languages in the home. Attend in-person faculty meetings, teacher training workshops, and educational conferences to maintain and improve professional competence. Education Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in a related field required. Experience Qualifications

Two (2) years of classroom teaching experience required. Skills and Abilities

Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of English as a Second Language. Thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching of students who are non-native in English. Communication, and collaboration with parents, educators, students. Instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learner. Student management. Organization, data-based decision making, and problem-solving. Technology skills: Teams, Microsoft Office, Excel, SharePoint, iOS, and/or other district applications or equipment as needed. Licenses and Certifications

Must hold or be eligible for a certificate or license issued by the Tennessee Department of Education with an English as a Second Language pre-K-12 (490) endorsement or similar license and endorsement required.
