Overview
Water Resources Technician role at Town of Amherst. Performs monitoring, sampling, and laboratory analyses in compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) requirements for water, sewer, landfill, drainage, and related Town activities. Responsibilities
Perform monitoring, sampling, and laboratory analyses, including microscopic analysis, of water, wastewater, landfill, and other related materials. Monitor compliance with EPA and MassDEP regulations; maintain test result records, enter data, and maintain databases; prepare reports. Operate, calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment, including online instrumentation; clean and maintain the laboratory; order supplies and maintain inventory. Work with Division Directors and Division Supervisors on treatment plant process control, including quality assurance and quality control. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum qualifications
Associate Degree in environmental science, biology, chemistry, geology, engineering, or other related field plus one (1) to three (3) years of related experience; or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities of the position. Valid Massachusetts Driver’s license. Ability to work on own initiative and to maintain proper testing and sampling procedures; demonstrated ability to organize records and interpret data; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates, contractors, vendors, and the public. Preferred qualifications
Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and applicable regulations as they relate to chemical, physical and bacteriological water quality requirements. Knowledge of pertinent local, state and federal regulations and requirements for the operation of laboratories, and water, wastewater, and landfill facilities. Special qualifications
Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug test; CORI background check and driver’s license check. Work environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions; near moving mechanical parts; and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration; frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
