Job Title: Police Officer (I-IV) (Candidate Pool) - Prairie View A&M University Agency: Prairie View A&M University Department: University Police Location: Prairie View, Texas Job Type: Staff Base pay range: $18.43/hr - $18.43/hr This is a pool of qualified applicants for potential future employment in various Police Officer (In Training, I, II, III, or IV) positions. Review of applications will be ongoing and candidates will be contacted when positions become available. Notes: Pay ranges may be provided by the university and final pay will be based on skills and experience. Job Duties

Provide law enforcement duties for the campus community, respond to emergencies and calls for assistance. Interact with the public; provide escorts; assist state, county, and city law enforcement as requested; respond to emergency calls and take appropriate action; aid other law enforcement and community departments and agencies. Patrol PVAMU property in Waller County by bicycle or foot under general supervision. Investigate illegal and suspicious activities, persons, and establishments; take reports and perform preliminary investigations; enforce all criminal laws and PVAMU regulations. Serve as training coordinator to ensure compliance with TCOLE training mandates; function as Victim Assistance Coordinator for the department. Prevent crime, suppress disturbances, issue citations, and testify in various courts and hearings; guard and transport prisoners. Report all violations and assist the public wherever possible. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications For Each Position Level

Police Officer in Training : Pay - $54,766.60 ($26.33/hour) High School Diploma or GED; graduated from Police Academy; two years of full-time employment; TCOLE Basic licensure; valid driver’s license. Police Officer I : Pay - $54,766.60 ($26.33/hour) High School Diploma or GED; one (1) year of related experience in law enforcement. Police Officer II : Pay - $61,068.80 ($29.36/hour) High School Diploma or GED; one (1) year of experience as a licensed Police Officer; TCOLE Basic licensure; valid driver’s license; must have State of Texas Class "C" vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. Police Officer III : Pay - $67,371.20 ($32.39/hour) High School diploma or GED and the required college/training hours for an Intermediate Peace Officer certification per TCOLE; 3 years of experience as a licensed Police Officer; TCOLE Intermediate Peace Officer certification; must have Class C license or ability to obtain within 30 days. Police Officer IV : Pay - $75,233.60 ($36.17/hour) High School diploma or GED and the required hours for Advanced Peace Officer certification per TCOLE; 5 years of experience as a licensed Police Officer or 6 years with no college degree; TCOLE Advanced Peace Officer certification; Class C license or ability to obtain within 30 days. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Ability to work shift work and pass firearms qualification. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population. Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions. Registrations, Certifications, And Licenses

Certified as a Police Officer by TCOLE. State of Texas Class "C" vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. Texas Selective Service registration (males 18-25). Other Requirements

Be a US Citizen. Must be in excellent physical health and stamina. Work beyond normal office hours and/or weekends. Successful completion of field training program. Pass entrance exam, psychological evaluation, physical examination, and background investigation (including driving, criminal, and credit history). Preferred Qualifications

30 college hours from an accredited college or university or an equivalent education/experience. Background Check
