Key Recovery provides comprehensive substance use disorder treatment and work skills training to help low-income, high-risk patients achieve sustained recovery and rebuild their lives. Responsible for providing family style meals according to a variety of planned menus for our south Seattle co-ed long-term residential program. Prepares and cooks food items to ensure the highest quality service and experience for patients. Hot breakfasts, salads, soups, pasta, sandwiches, casseroles, fruit and vegetable dishes, and baked goods are primarily what this position prepares on a regular basis. Will be a role model for our Life Skills Program and share skills and knowledge with participants as directed by Kitchen Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
Preparing food in accordance with recipes. This includes washing, measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients.
Responsible for providing support for special meals as directed by Lead Cook, Kitchen Supervisor or Kitchen Manager.
Prepare ingredients to use in cooking (chopping and peeling vegetables, cutting meat etc.)
Cook food in various kitchen pots/pans, utensils, or grillers.
Check food while cooking to stir or turn, check for proper temperature.
Support a sanitized and orderly environment in the kitchen.
Ensure all food and other items are stored properly as directed.
Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to follow recipe and instructions in cooking and delivering well-prepared meals
Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods (grilling, baking, boiling etc.)
Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
Ability to work as a team
Effective communication skills
Education/Experience
Must have a High School diploma or equivalent, AA Culinary degree preferred
1 year experience working in a commercial or catering kitchen preferred
Experience in using various ingredients and cooking techniques
Experience in using cutting tools, cookware, and bakeware
License/Certification
Food Handler Certification Required. Must be able to pass a WSP background check, successfully pass drug and TB testing.
Physical Demands and Work Environment The physical demands and work environment described below represent the activities and surroundings of the positions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
The work is typically performed in a large kitchen environment that can be hot and steamy with various heating appliances, hot food, hot water etc. The noise level is moderate to loud and environmental conditions may include fumes or airborne particles; steam, hot surfaces, electrical equipment, and various caustic chemicals used for cleaning and sanitizing. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly lift 5, 10, 20lbs, heavy pots and pans, platters, etc. Occasionally may lift and /or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time and walk, reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and taste or smell.
