Summary
The Assistant Dean serves as a full-time, 12-month administrative position in the College of Innovation and Design. The Assistant Dean will be instrumental in building dynamic digital learning environments and implementing personalized student support strategies that foster meaningful engagement within the college’s fully online programs. Working directly with the Dean, the college leadership team, and faculty, the Assistant Dean will drive strategic initiatives that elevate the student experience and advance our educational mission of transforming lives. This position requires a visionary leader who will work primarily with competency-based education programs and can provide strategic direction for planning engagement initiatives, monitor and optimize enrollment and graduation outcomes, and cultivate a productive, collaborative atmosphere among faculty and staff. The Assistant Dean will mentor faculty on their reaching and service pursuits and build excellence in curriculum design and course scheduling. The role will include teaching up to 2 courses per semester in your area of specialization. The Assistant Dean will bring proven leadership experience from academic or industry settings, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills that inspire collaboration and innovation. This position is primarily located at our Dallas site, with regular travel to the main campus in Commerce, Texas. The position offers tenure eligibility for qualified candidates. Works collaboratively with Dean, the Academic Success Team, and faculty to build a positive work environment and effective structures, policies, and channels of communications. Works collaboratively with Dean toward effective leadership and management of programs within the College, as assigned. Assesses departmental performance and determines critical requirements for program practices and documentation. Performs annual evaluations of faculty and staff in CID academic programs. Performs annual evaluation of adjunct teaching effectiveness. Oversees course rotation and schedule of classes. Monitors program scholarships closely and ensures they are fully awarded in a timely fashion. Develops and implements college plans for curriculum development, review and revision. Works collaboratively with CID Student Success Team and the Associate Program Director to oversee an effective Student Success Team. Monitors graduation rates and ensures compliance with any relevant Texas A&M System Board of Regents or Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board requirements. Serves as Institutional Effectiveness Officer Keeps faculty informed of institutional issues in a timely and transparent fashion by hosting academic program meetings and sending out regular communication. Manages student issues, the graduation process; employment of adjunct faculty and GAs; program marketing, including the college website; student internships; alumni records; fund-raising initiatives; ordering of equipment and/or supplies; facility renovations; and the completion of various required reports. Works collaboratively with the Dean in the development of new undergraduate programs and/or certificates as needed. Works collaboratively with the Dean to seek and attract extramural funding and industry funded partnerships as needed. Participates alongside relevant faculty under the direction of the Dean on advisory board meetings for academic programs. Serves on selected departmental, college, and university committees; may represent college at University Executive Council, Deans Council, and Academic Council in the absence of the Dean. Participates in all aspects of the college’s activities. Processes, hears, and decides upon academic suspension and appeals. Oversees program and course quality, leading by excellence in own teaching pedagogy. Monitors enrollment of programs, coordinating marketing and recruiting efforts with faculty Assigns and oversees services assignments equitable to full-time faculty in college. Reinforces relationship with community colleges, advisory boards, and external stakeholders by building pathways and partnerships with guidance from the Dean. Leads continuation and development of college initiatives for both internal and external projects, as appropriate and assigned. Promotes and mentors the professional development of faculty within the college. Fulfill half-time teaching load. Minimum Requirements
Education:
Terminal Degree; appropriate to field and assignment (ABD candidates considered with identified completion date). Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
Leadership experience within higher education and/or industry Program assessment and development Personnel management Evidence of effective interaction and communication with students, faculty, administration, alumni, and community
Ability to:
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and students. Ability to work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends as needed.
