Essential Duties / Responsibilities
Establishes clear goals and objectives related to the school improvement plan. Plans and prepares lessons, assignments, and instructional materials.
Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development.
Prepares, administers, and corrects evaluations and assessments, and records results. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, board policy, and administrative regulation.
Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies including lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling, and multi‑media teaching aids to present subject matter to students.
Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques. Counsels pupils when academic and adjustment problems arise.
Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning and takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilitates. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, textbooks, materials, and facilities.
Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
Confers with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students; arranges participates in teacher‑parent or teacher‑student conferences as necessary.
Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and provides input regarding the planning of instructional goals, objectives, and methods. May serve on special committees.
Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers.
Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
One (1) year experience with virtual learning technology, remote instruction platforms, Learning Management Systems, and video conferencing tools, if assigned to Virtual Academy required.
Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives, curriculum, teaching techniques; current trends, research and materials of instruction in field of specialization.
Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school board staff, students, parents and the community.
Excellent organizational and human relation skills.
Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Ability to travel to/from Maryland Sites as necessary at the expense of the employee for in‑person appearances as required.
Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Language Requirements
Bilingual/Biliterate in targeted language if assigned to bilingual program.
Licenses and Certifications
Hold or be eligible for educator certificate/license issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required.
