Overview
Facilitates complex communication between staff and clients or patients, including parents or guardians. Provides interpretation, sight translation, and/or translation of documents in medical or community settings. Responsibilities
Facilitate interpretation between medical staff and patients/families, including translating documents as needed. Adhere to professional ethics and maintain accuracy in medical terminology. Qualifications
Minimum of two years interpreter experience, preferably in a medical setting. In-house contractors may qualify after full rotation, generally around 12 months. Medical Interpreter course completion through a technical school or higher education institution strongly preferred. At minimum, High School graduate or GED/HSED required. Pass verbal and written proficiency tests with an overall score of 80%. Solid knowledge of complex medical terminology through Medical Terminology coursework or proven linguistic abilities in medical interpreting and knowledge of the NCIHC code of ethics. National certification must be completed within 2 years of hire through CCHI or the National Board, and certification must be maintained. Bilingual in Spanish with ability to break linguistic and cultural barriers between patients and medical staff; capacity to shift between languages in simultaneous and consecutive interpreting modes. One of the following: CCHI-Certified Healthcare Interpreter; CMI-Certified Medical Interpreter; National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NCIHC code of ethics reference as applicable). Employment details
Employment type: Part-time Seniority level: Entry level Job function: Marketing, Public Relations, and Writing/Editing Industries: Hospitals and Health Care This is a casual role with a work schedule of every other Saturday night, third (3rd) shift. Additional requirements: Computer and word processing skills including MS Word, comfort with an iPad, and experience with electronic health records. Good customer service, strong communication and listening skills, effective organizational skills with attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task and manage interpretation for more than one patient/family at a time.
