Work directly with inmates in a locked facility. Monitor and control access to the facility and restricted areas. Man an armed post (annual firearms certification required). Monitor facility perimeter, detain unidentified pedestrians and/or vehicles. Operate a variety of mechanical doors, security devices, equipment and alarms. Control movement of inmates throughout the daily schedule. Escort and transport inmates in authorized state vehicles. Monitor visiting areas; conduct formal, informal and emergency counts; cross check and maintain movement logs. Conduct searches for contraband (canine, metal detector, pat-down, perimeter, strip and vehicle searches). Inspect facility and cells to maintain health, safety and sanitation standards; inspect inmate mail and property. Utilize proper protocols when responding to emergencies (fights, medical emergencies, fires, escapes). Follow established tool and key control, ensure proper storage and documentation; attend roll call. Document incidents and communicate pertinent information to coworkers and supervisors. Positions may require working additional hours and/or shifts to maintain safety and security of facilities that are open 24/7. Minimum Qualifications

Required High School Diploma or GED. Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States. Must be at least 18 years old; valid and unrestricted Colorado driver’s license; willingness and ability to drive a state-owned vehicle. Successful completion of a background investigation; health screening; and all modules of the CDOC Basic Training, including Defensive Tactics. Ability to perform Defensive Tactics as trained, with physical requirements such as lifting, taking down, and striking techniques as described in training. Willingness to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, and inclement weather; able to report to work during inclement weather. Willingness to use physical force (as trained) and to work in a locked facility with potential exposure to high-stress situations. Ability to travel and transport inmates in state vehicles; tuberculosis screening required for new employees. Background and health screenings are required; successful completion of the Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training is necessary.
