CORRECTIONAL OFFICER I - Limon Correctional Facility

Overview LCF is a Level IV facility located on Highway 71, two miles south of Limon, approximately 80 miles east of Denver. The facility sits on 320 acres with 36 acres enclosed by a 4,000-foot double-perimeter fence. LCF comprises 13 buildings with offender housing and basic services including educational and work opportunities. The facility footprint is 377,400 square feet. LCF has a capacity of 938 offenders, including close custody, medium and minimum restricted custody populations, housed in six general population living units and a separate Restrictive Housing Unit. LCF includes incentive units to reward positive offender behavior and participation in higher education and related programs.
Responsibilities
Work directly with inmates in a locked facility
Monitor and control access to the facility and restricted areas
Man an armed post (annual firearms certification required)
Monitor facility perimeter and detain unidentified pedestrians or vehicles
Operate a variety of mechanical doors, security devices, equipment and alarms
Control movement of inmates throughout the daily schedule
Escort and transport inmates in authorized state vehicles
Monitor visiting areas and conduct counts
Cross-check and maintain movement logs
Conduct searches for contraband (canine, metal detector, pat-downs, perimeter, strip and vehicle searches)
Inspect facility and cells to maintain health, safety and sanitation standards
Inspect inmate mail and property
Respond to emergencies and follow safety protocols
Maintain tool and key control, storage and documentation
Attend roll call and document incidents using established reporting practices
Communicate pertinent information to coworkers and supervisors
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED certificate
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
Must be at least 18 years of age
Possess a valid and unrestricted driver’s license

Successful completion of a background investigation
All job offers are contingent upon a health screening
Ability to pass the Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training and assessments
Willingness and ability to work all shifts, overtime, weekends and holidays
Ability to use physical force as trained and follow safety protocols
Willingness to work in a locked facility and in varying weather conditions
TB screening required for all new employees
