Overview

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) / Los Angeles School Police Department (LASPD) seeks a Police Officer to perform police work in the prevention, control, and investigation of crimes against students, District personnel, and District property to ensure essential police functions and community-based policing. Job Duties/Responsibilities

Maintaining law and order at District facilities, including prevention and control of incidents of violence directed against District facilities, personnel, or students. Enforcing violations of California vehicle codes and penal codes, and all other violations of city, county, State, and federal law and statutes as necessary. Observing, collecting, preserving, and recording physical and oral evidence of crimes, including fingerprints. Contacting and cooperating with local law-enforcement agencies in the prevention, control, and investigation of antisocial or illegal activities by persons or groups directed against District facilities, personnel, or students. Investigating crimes affecting District facilities, personnel, and students. May act as law enforcement liaison amongst District schools and offices and juvenile courts, probation offices, and local law-enforcement agencies. Performs related duties as assigned. Qualifications

Education Minimum: Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency. Experience None. Special Physical Requirements Visual field and depth, color, and hue perception; hear normal voice-range frequencies; agility and strength to make apprehensions and to protect self from attack. Special A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and the use of a motor vehicle; an appointee must be legally authorized to work in the United States; ability to speak and understand Spanish is preferable. Special Notes Appointment is subject to fingerprinting, a review of conviction record, and a comprehensive background investigation. An appointee must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment. An appointee must successfully complete a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (CA P.O.S.T.) accredited academy. An appointee must successfully complete the LASPD CA P.O.S.T.-approved Field Training Program (F.T.P.). An appointee must qualify quarterly with departmentally approved firearms at a designated police range. Permitted & Notes

Desirable qualifications include the ability to read, understand and interpret written materials, strong listening skills, the ability to work in emergency situations and handle stressful events, sound judgment and decision-making, and the ability to maintain complete and accurate records and prepare clear police reports. Training: LAUSD pays for the CA P.O.S.T.-accredited academy; upon hire, the employee is paid a monthly salary. Insurance: Paid premiums for medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans. Retirement: Membership in CalPERS. Vacation: Up to two weeks to start; three weeks after five years of service. Paid Holidays: Up to 13 days. Employment Selection Process

The selection process includes a Written Test, a Physical Assessment Test, a Writing Project, and an Oral Interview. Successful completion leads to a comprehensive background investigation, a polygraph examination, a medical examination, and a psychological evaluation.
