Long Beach, CA – Rank Police Officer (full‑time, entry level).
Job Overview Patrol an assigned area by car, foot, or motorcycle to maintain law and order; regulate traffic; respond to radio and telephone dispatches; investigate unusual or suspicious conditions, traffic accidents and complaints; make arrests, guard prisoners and question suspects; issue citations and serve subpoenas and warrants; investigate or assist in investigating vice conditions, crimes reported or persons arrested; prepare evidence and appear in court; administer first aid and render assistance to the injured; report unsafe or hazardous conditions; prepare log of activities and keep records; may act as radio dispatcher or jailer; assist in administrative and operational activities; and perform other related duties as required.
Responsibilities

Investigate traffic accidents, complaints, and suspicious conditions.
Make arrests, guard prisoners, and question suspects.
Issue citations, serve subpoenas, and deliver warrants.
Assist in investigating vice conditions and other crimes.
Prepare evidence and appear in court.
Administer first aid and render assistance to the injured.
Report unsafe or hazardous conditions.
Prepare activity log and keep records.
Act as radio dispatcher or jailer (as assigned).
Assist in administrative and operational activities.
Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
California Applicants: Full‑time employment for at least one continuous year in California as a Peace Officer (Penal Code §§ 830, 830.1, 830.2) with a valid Basic POST Certificate.
Out of State Applicants: Full‑time employment for at least one continuous year of sworn general law enforcement experience with the Basic Course Waiver (BCW) from the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST).
Reserve Officer Applicants: Current reserve officer status in California with a POST Level 1 certificate and 2,000 paid or volunteer patrol hours.
United States high school graduation or GED equivalency.
Twenty‑one years of age or older.
A valid driver’s license.
U.S. citizenship or an application for citizenship, granted within three years of appointment.
No felony convictions.
Excellent observation, writing, communication, and human‑relation skills.
Strong leadership and public‑service qualities.
Ability to make sound decisions; read, comprehend, and retain technical training materials.
Endurance for strenuous physical activity requiring good balance, coordination, flexibility, and strength.
Compassion, cultural sensitivity, and non‑discrimination toward a diverse population.
Tact using excellent interpersonal skills; solve problems; demonstrate good mediation skills during highly confrontational situations.
Proof of required documents (Basic POST certificate, Basic Course Waiver, POST Level 1 certificate, or DD‑214 Member 4 for Veteran’s Credit) uploaded during online application filing.
Desirable Qualifications
Recent college coursework in a related field.
Bilingual skills in English/Spanish or English/Southeast Asian languages.

Qualified applicants will be called to a final selection procedure administered by the Police Department, including a thorough background investigation, job‑related medical examination, physical ability test, polygraph, and psychological examination.
